Name: Bennie Laurence Willard
Age: 27
Appearance:
Bennie is quiet the typical-looking woman of 27 for Malton, her height a little below average for the norm (at around 5’3) and her frame skinny from malnutrition following the poor diet of a Malton survivor. Her face is one that shows scars of both the emotional and physical strain of living in Malton; she has only one eye, which is a dull green, her left eye missing, the empty socket wrapped over with grubby white bandages which cover her shredded left ear as well, her hair is a light brown, tied back in a ponytail whilst keeping a fringe that hangs just above eye level. Dull pink healed-over scar run down her left cheek from the same injury that cost Bennie her right eye and right ear, overall though, she remains fairly nice-looking for the average Malton survivor, if a bit grizzled.
Her clothes are mostly taken from a Military exhibit in a Museum in North Dentonside, to replace her older, torn BDU’s and as such, she dresses in a Tunicwith rolled up sleeves and Fatigues in Tigerstripe camouflage which show signs of wear and tear, although have been suitably stitched in places of tears. She wears a utility vest over her tunic, which holds an Anglehead Flashlight, a sheathed combat knife and numerous webbing pouches containing miscellaneous items, a matching belt is around her waist, which holds her holstered handgun, more webbing pouches, a water canteen and a Police-Issue Baton. Thick black-leather combat boots cloth her feet and a steel M1 Helmet takes pride of place on her head, it’s chinstrap dangling by her ears and it’s fraying tigerstripe cloth cover marked simply with a large picture of a star in black marker pen, with her name under it.
The Olive Green field pack on her back carries Bennie’s worldly possessions, almost all survival and other essential gear, as well as an XM16E1 Rifle, which she holds as the last of her surviving gear from when she fell into Malton…
Weaponry:
Bennie’s weapons cover a limited amount of two firearms, a knife and a Police-issue baton, her preferring them to carrying around multiple shotguns and revolvers or a heavy fire axe. The two firearms Bennie carries are a simple reproduction Walther PP, found on her wanderings through Malton, and a XM16E1 rifle, her only original surviving weapon from when she first came into Malton. Although alarmingly, it is an assault rifle, ammunition is hard to find for it, and Bennie is reserved to having only two full clips for it, saved for emergencies, preferring to use her Walther PP instead, due to the greater availability of ammunition. However, whenever possible, Bennie prefers to escape combat, rather than wasting resources and physical effort.
Personality:
Bennie is, and has been for a while, a sufferer of various conditions from the strain of living alone in Malton, most notably, Combat Stress Reaction. She suffers from Insomnia, Mild Paranoia, Nightmares and Irritability, often staying up all night in a half-sleep, that is staring blankly at walls until she can finally drop off to sleep. This has taken a firm hold on her personality, and often seems cold, distant, and very quiet, because of this, Bennie steers from contact, and often finds solace being alone. As a side note, Bennie is Asexual, due to a variety of reasons, but predominantly because she had an emotionless childhood.
Short Bio:
Bennie comes from Military Parents, who were serving together in the late seventies and eighties in the Royal Navy, and after a brief relationship during the on-shore Christmas party, Bennie was conceived. Her mother learned of her pregnancy later, and this apparent unwanted pregnancy could only be dealt with via birth because of Bennie’s mother’s Catholic Religion. After taking Maternity leave, Bennie was born, and shortly put up for adoption, where she was quickly adopted by her grandparents, who thought that it would be better to raise the unwanted child themselves instead of giving her to another family. Both of Bennie’s grandparents were staunchly Catholic, and raised Bennie with their own beliefs, and a strong sense of discipline. Her early life, Bennie saw, was emotionless, neither of her grandparents openly showing love or care for her. This was far from the truth however, as although her Grandparents loved her, they never expressed it properly.
Bennie left Secondary School at seventeen, and instantly joined up for the local armed forces regiment, as Bennie saw it as the reason why she was born, and ultimately where she would end up. She trained for three years, before ‘graduating’ as a Paratrooper in the 3rd Battalion of the Paras in 2001, serving in a few British-ran military bases, including Northern Ireland and a Logistics base in Germany, from where she learnt to speak German Fluently. Missing out on the Afghanistan Conflict and the war in Iraq due to a training injury, Bennie was set with a large group that worked in the Malton area, keeping the place out of the publics eye, diverting traffic, manning roadblocks and the like.
It was December 2006 when the small group Bennie was in was chosen to take part in a small reconnaissance mission in Malton, trying to locate the whereabouts of a previous squad that went in before them, although it wasn’t clear to them why, the squad never given a full reason. After a very poor and incomplete mission briefing, Bennie’s unit was loaded up and put on a light transport helicopter, flying over the mile quarantine zone around the City of Malton, once outskirts, but now all raised to make ground clear for quarantine precautions. They flew over the wall defences, and landed on a rooftop in Roachtown, where the squad they were looking for had landed a month previously. Quickly moving out, Bennie’s squad began their search.
Like most new Military Squads that have their first week in Malton, Bennie’s squad faired terribly. After a brief search of the surrounding area, finding no trace of the squad they had been looking for, two of the seven-man squad was lost to a zombie attack in a ruined Police Station. Clearly rattled by the new enemies they had found, the Squad cleared out the Police Station and started a beachhead position, for them to operate out of temporarily. This effort was short-lived, as their actions attracted the attention of the nearby survivor gangs, who saw them as intruding on their turf. Soon later, an attack was organized, and the Police Station came under heavy barrage of firebombs, IED’s and bullets. Outnumbered and outgunned, Bennie’s Squad soon fell to two members; herself and James Dolson, the support gunner.
Bennie and James, seeing a clear defeat, attempted to make an escape into the next building from the rooftops, managing to get away from the burning Police Station, but came into contact with another gang of survivors, seeing the commotion, and looking for spoils. The pair engaged a few of the members from the cover of a room, before a gang member threw in a Pipe Bomb, shredding Dolson instantly and costing Bennie heavy Shrapnel damage to the left side of her face, before she was put out of her misery from multiple gun shot wounds, bleeding to death in multiple places.
From what she saw as the end, Bennie woke up a week later, in the gutter outside of a Museum, dressed in the bloody rags of her BDU’s, clutching the broken remains of her rifle and miles away from where she had died. From there, she has been wandering, learning more of the hell of Malton, and trying to continue her task of searching for the unit she had been looking for originally; Squad Whiskey 49. During this period of looking for the Squad, Bennie has traveled through most of the Eastern and Southern regions of Malton, usually hiring out her services as an enforcer to gangs in exchange for ammunition, food, shelter and information.
After working with a small gang in West Grayside, Bennie has moved south to trek down to the mall in further search of work and her missing squad. Her search has been fruitless so far and Bennie has ended up in Wyke Hills, still on her currently void search…
